Philip D. Johnson Honorary Member Award

This recognition was renamed in 1990 in honor of Philip D. Johnson, who cofounded ASNT and nurtured it through its first three decades.

The Philip D. Johnson Honorary Member Award is the highest lifetime ASNT award bestowed upon a longtime member of the Society who is appreciated at the national level – and perhaps internationally – for many years (minimum 20) of meritorious service in the technology of nondestructive testing.

Eligibility

To acknowledge and honor a member of the Society for outstanding eminence in the field of nondestructive testing, this award is the highest lifetime recognition that the Society bestows.

The recipient shall be a person of outstanding eminence in the field of NDT which can include research and development, applications, teaching or management. The person shall be a long-time member of the Society and must be widely recognized and appreciated nationally, and perhaps internationally, for many years (minimum twenty (20)).

Nomination

  • Nomination Letter detailing the qualifications of the candidate
  • A resume of the candidate’s activities and reputation supporting the nomination
  • A letter seconding the recommendation from a colleague who is also familiar with the nominee’s activities/reputation

Selection

The Awards and Honors Council selects up to one individual each year, and the recognition will be presented at ASNT’s Annual Conference.
